Jawaharlal Nehru University PhD Registration Begins
Candidates who have qualified JRF, NET, or GATE can submit applications by July 7
NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has commenced the online registration for its PhD admissions for the 2025-26 academic year.
Candidates can submit applications on the official website, jnuee.jnu.ac.in, by 11:50 pm on July 7.
Eligibility criteria
- JRF-qualified
- NET-qualified
- GATE-qualified (only for School of Engineering)
The JNU has made it clear that applicants must have both the required educational qualification and a valid NET/JRF/GATE score in the relevant subject mandatorily.
Before applying, candidates should go through the JNU PhD e-Prospectus to understand seat availability and course-specific requirements.

Academic criteria
- A Master’s degree (1- or 2-year) with at least 55% marks, or
- An M.Phil degree with 55% marks, or
- A 4-year Bachelor’s degree with 75% marks (or 70% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS categories)
- Foreign degree holders must ensure their qualification is recognised by an approved Indian agency.

- Application correction window: July 8-9
- Viva invite announcement: By July 18
- Viva-voce exams: July 25-31
- First merit list: August 11
- Fee payment: August 11–13
- Document verification: August 18–21
- Second list: August 29
- Verification: September 4–5
- Final list (if needed): September 15
- Verification: September 22–23
- Last admission date: September 30
Applicants can select up to three fields of study in order of preference. Once submitted, preferences cannot be changed.
A separate notice will be released for PhD admissions to Cinema Studies and Korean Studies.
