Jobs Aplenty But North Indian Candidates Lack Qualification: Union Minister
New Delhi: Union Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar on Saturday claimed that there is no dearth of job opportunities in the country but lack of qualifications among North Indian candidates.
His reaction evoked a strong reaction from the Opposition, with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra terming his statement as an “insult” to North Indians.
What did Gangwar say?
Addressing media at Bareilly, he said: “I want to say that there is no dearth of job opportunities in the country. Those who come for recruitment in North India, often complain that they are unable to find quality in candidates required for the post they are hiring for” said the Minister of State (Independent Charge), in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, while addressing a press conference in Bareilly on Saturday.
“I am looking after the same ministry and I monitor the situation on a daily basis. There is no dearth of employment in the country. We have employment exchanges for a purpose and we have also developed a separate system,” he added.
The Minister’s statement came at a time when the government is confronted with widespread criticism on the job front and the overall slump in the economy. Gangwar, with his remarks, had sought to defend the government on the dwindling job opportunities, but in the process set the cat among the pigeons.
Leading the charge against him was the Congress general secretary. Priyanka saw his statement was an attempt to escape from the current job scenario as the economic policies of the present dispensation had led to the job crisis.
https://t.co/2f9ZhGmVoT

BSP supremo Mayawati slammed the Minister’s remarks, describing it as highly deplorable and saying that he has made light of the situation instead of tackling the job crisis.
