Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is planning to begin online classes to teach school students from June 1 amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The decision on starting regular classes will be taken soon. The government has taken several decisions regarding various entrance exams, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told Hindustan Times.
“This time, there will not be any separate examination for lateral entry into engineering courses for those who finished polytechnic courses. Instead, admissions will be made on the basis of marks by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations,” the chief minister said.
Moreover, students studying in polytechnic colleges in the state will be able to appear for exams at polytechnics near their homes. The last semester exams of polytechnic colleges are scheduled to begin in the first week of June, he added.
Students who have already filled the entrance examination form of Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) will be given a chance to change their examination centres.
For law courses, the authorities will conduct the entrance examination in June mid-week.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in Kerala is 524, out of which, 489 are cured while four people have succumbed to the deadly virus in the state so far.
