Kids Of ESI Beneficiaries Can Avail Quota In MBBS Admission

Bhubaneswar: The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has appealed to the children of ESI beneficiaries seeking application from them for the quota while taking admission in ESIC) and other government medical colleges across India.

A quota is ensured to the children of insured persons under the ESI scheme eligible for admission to medical colleges run by the ESIC and other government medical colleges.

“They need to qualify in NEET-UG-2021 to become eligible to apply,” an official was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

According to ESIC regional office Odisha director Parthasarathy Panda, they have six ESIC medical colleges and one dental college in India. “Besides, three other government medical colleges are offering insured person (IP) quota to children of ESI beneficiaries,” Panda told the national daily.

These colleges have a total of 382 MBBS seats and 28 BDS seats across the country. However, the number of seats may change as per the guidelines from the state and the Centre.

The officials said that students under the IP quota are allotted seats on the basis of their merit-cum-preference through centralised online counselling. The directorate general of health services conducts the counselling. The admission fee (for an MBBS/BDS seat) is Rs 24,000 per year for a candidate under the quota.

“It is a good provision which can help many students in the state. ESI beneficiaries or their children are not aware about this. We request them to visit our website or our office to know about this and get its benefit,” Panda told the paper.
