KIIT Convocation: 7135 Graduating Students Presented Degrees By Nobel Laureate Prof Yunus In Virtual Mode
Bhubaneswar: A total of 7135 students of 2019-20 graduating batch of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University received their degrees at the 16th Annual Convocation on Saturday.
The programme, held in virtual mode, saw students receiving their degrees from chief guest Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel Peace Laureate from Bangladesh.
Odisha’s deemed to be university conferred honorary degrees of D.Litt. on spiritual leader and Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Chairman & MD, IRCON International Ltd SK Chaudhary. Director General of Meteorology, IMD Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra was conferred honorary degree of D.Sc.
“You are entering a new phase of life. Education is a long and difficult journey but it makes you capable to transform the world,” Professor Yunus told the graduating students in his convocation address.
Chief Speaker Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said: “The purpose of education is to build a strong personality that is equipped to convert new challenges into opportunities and broadmindedness and humility to continue learning forever.” He stressed on the importance of inner strength, perseverance, patience and creativity for achieving success in life.
Prakhar Priyesh (B.Tech.), Srishti Raj (M.Tech.) and Roshan Ojha (B.Tech.) were awarded Founder’s gold medal for their outstanding all-round and academic performances. Twenty-three students were awarded Chancellor’s gold medal, while 28 received Vice-Chancellor’s Silver Medal.
Ninety-five research scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees.
