Kolkata: A large number of schools in Kolkata have collected nearly 90 per cent of pending fees from defaulting parents.
With a large amount of the arrears cleared, the schools are now mulling over giving the remaining defaulters an extension to clear the dues and even the option of paying in instalments, The Times of India reported.
Birla High School and Sushila Birla School Spokesperson Brigadier VN Chaturvedi said they are used to the “persuasion routine” of the 6 per cent defaulters, and expect to reach “100% target by the end of the academic year.”
Defaulters at South Point and MP Birla have been asked to pay by December 19, or apply for additional waivers, with proper documents and reasons.
Shri Shikshayatan School received payments from 96 per cent of parents of Class X and XII students, with spokesperson Bratati Bhattachaarya saying that “About 10% defaulters is always the case,” adding that they had reverted to the 2017 structure on account of being unable to increase fees.
Many parents wrote to schools denying waivers and opting to pay the fees via deadline extension and instalments, with 70 per cent at La Martiniere schools not taking the waivers, while most parents at Don Bosco Circus were willing to pay the full fees.
