Madhyamik 2022: West Bengal Bans Internet In Some Areas To Stop Cheating

Kolkata: The West Bengal government has chosen to temporarily ban internet services in some areas of the state to stop cheating on the days of class X state board examination (Madhyamik) that kicked off on Monday.

The move came following reports of purported question paper leaks via social media platforms from some exam centres in several districts including Malda and Murshidabad within an hour of commencement of exams in 2019 and 2020, an official of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Sunday.

The WBBSE holds the examination which was not conducted in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the notice, intelligence reports said that internet transmission and voice over internet telephony may be used for “unlawful activities in certain areas over the next few days”.
