Mumbai: Maharashtra Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced that all state schools will adopt the CBSE curriculum by 2028, starting with Class 1 in 2025 and extending to Class 12.
The CBSE curriculum will be introduced gradually: Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6 in 2026; Classes 5, 7, 9, and 11 in 2027; and Classes 8, 10, and 12 in 2028, stated the Maharashtra Education Minister, Dada Bhuse.
Further, Bhuse informed the legislature that work on drafting Class 1 textbooks under the new CBSE curriculum is underway, with Balbharti tasked with updating the state education board’s syllabus.
“New curriculum will focus on continuous and comprehensive evaluation and not just the final examinations. It will help development of soft skills of the students and the will help to disseminate quality education. The CBSE curriculum will help students to prepare better for competitive examinations,” he said.
However, the CBSE curriculum will be introduced for Class 1 in 2025 and fully implemented up to Class 12 by 2028. Bhuse also informed the legislature that a proposal has been drafted to regulate private coaching classes in Maharashtra, aiming to curb financial exploitation, as highlighted by NCP MLC Amol Mitkari.
Bhuse stated that the Centre has already established guidelines for private coaching, and Maharashtra’s school education department will draft its legislation accordingly.
“We have already drafted a proposal, and the Act will be published in the coming days,” he said to a news report. He further mentioned that Maharashtra will soon introduce a school education policy aimed at improving the department’s overall functioning. “Efforts are underway to enhance the quality of education in schools with students’ best interests in mind,” he added.
