Manipal: The Udupi district health administration has announced the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) a containment zone after 59 people from the campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 17.
The institute postponed the end-semester exams and moved the theory classes to online mode soon after the announcement.
As per an MIT notice, the district administration took the call fearing a second COVID wave in the state. The pending exams will be rescheduled to a later date, the notice further said.
Students’ movement on the campus, hostels, nearby areas have also been restricted in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus.
Karnataka education minister S Suresh Kumar said the final call regarding the start of the new academic session from July 15 will be taken after taking stock of things. The pandemic is currently on a rise in Karnataka.
