Mizoram To Hold Class 12 Board Exams Amid Lockdown, Students Decry Decision

Aizwal: Despite the Centre’s guidelines to close all education institutions till May 3, the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) has decided to conduct the remaining Class 12 board exams from April 22 to April 24.

Around 4,700 students will be appearing for the examination.

According to an MBSE notification on Friday, the students can take the exams at the nearest centre of their choice.

“It was inevitable as the board exam was abruptly suspended due to the imposition of the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus,” Mizoram Education Minister, Lalchhandama Ralte was quoted by India Today as saying.

Following the decision, the students took to social media to demand postponement of the exams till everything gets back to normal. Many students took to Instagram to post their pictures with the hashtag “msbe no exams no risk”.

Siaha district, however, will not adhere to the board’s decision as it will violate the Union Home Ministry guidelines on the lockdown, District Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chaudhary said.
