Mumbai: Mumbai University has informed all the faculty to conduct backlog exams by November 30 for first and second-year students whose decision was put on hold since June of the academic year 2019-20.
Faculty have been asked to conduct their backlog exams within 120 days of physically resuming the classes although the students have been promoted to their subsequent classes.
These exams will be now conducted online at the college level in MCQ format, like the last year’s exams.
In June, a committee appointed by the state had suggested that backlog exams for college students can be conducted quickly after colleges reopen. But, with no assurance on when the state will permit them to reopen, the colleges needed to conduct these backlog exams within the 120-day interval. This is to enable students, faculty and the colleges to concentrate on the upcoming regular semester-end examinations.
“Our first priority in the last few months was to complete the exams for the graduating batch. Since we have completed the exams and announced many important results, we now plan to finish these backlog exams soon. These exams are anyway conducted at the college level. After this, we have to focus on semester-end exam for this year post-Diwali” an official was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
However, colleges which have accomplished backlog log exams before March 23 needn’t conduct them once more. This year, faculty and students will get a Diwali break from November 12 to 18.
