NEW DELHI: The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 will have a global impact, and India is giving unprecedented impetus to embracing new technologies, learning in Indian languages, research and employability skill, Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan has said.
“The world needs to come together to solve global challenges, and India is ready to play its role. From opening doors for foreign universities to set up campuses in India, to moving towards a paradigm of putting competency over degree, India will fulfil the aspirations of its society and become a growth engine of the world,” Pradhan said during a fireside chat at the India Leadership Summit 2024, organised by the US India Strategic Partnership Forum, in New Delhi.
He shared his thoughts on India’s progress in various aspects of education, which is driving learners towards competency and knowledge-based enterprises. Pradhan highlighted how India can embrace new opportunities for developing a future-ready, responsible generation of global citizens.
LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky and President of Pace University Marvin Krislov also took part in the session.
Transforming education system
The NEP-2020 is a policy that aims to “transform India’s education system to be more flexible, holistic, and multidisciplinary.” It was launched on July 29, 2020 by the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The NEP-2020 replaced the National Policy on Education (NPE) of 1986.
