New Institutes To Boost Education In Northeast: HRD Minister
New Delhi: HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has informed that the Centre will set up several higher educational institutions in the Northeast as part of its plan to equip the region with improved infrastructure and quality education.
As part of the plan, the government will grant permission for establishing a permanent campus of Sikkim University (a Central University) at Yangyang at a cost of Rs 986.47 crore.
The state government has allocated 300 acres of land for the project and the handing over of the remaining land is under process, India Today reported.
The Centre has also sanctioned the revised cost estimates of setting up of four NITs in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
These NITs will be fully functional from their respective permanent campuses by March 31, 2022, the HRD minister said.
