NSDC, IIT Mandi & NCU Launch B.Tech In Semiconductor Design To Bridge Skill Gap

Bhubaneswar: NSDC, IIT Mandi, and North Cap University have signed an MoU to launch a B.Tech in ECE specialising in Semiconductor Design and Technology. The agreement was signed at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi.

This partnership addresses the growing demand for skilled semiconductor professionals in India and globally by providing industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on training

However, the four-year programme, structured across eight semesters, offers specialised training in semiconductor engineering. It includes 25 credits of application-oriented learning, jointly developed by NCU, NSDC, and IIT Mandi. The degree will be awarded by NCU.

Key subjects covered in the curriculum:

  • Nanotechnology & Semiconductor Materials Engineering
  • Semiconductor Physics
  • Introduction to Microfabrication
  • Semiconductor Fabrication
  • Semiconductor Equipment Design & Technology
  • Advanced Topics in Manufacturing

The role of NSDC will facilitate programme implementation by:

  •   Driving student enrolments through its digital platform
  •  Supporting eligible candidates with education loans
  •  Providing AI-enabled learning resources, including lectures and assignments
  •  Assisting with internships and job placements

Additionally, the programme combines academic and practical training in semiconductor technologies. IIT Mandi faculty will lead specialised courses and six hands-on labs over four years, with credits contributing to the NCU-awarded degree.

Institutional Leadership Perspectives

As per media reports, Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, NSDC & MD, NSDC International, emphasized, “This collaboration integrates world-class education with industry-relevant skills, ensuring students—especially from smaller towns—are prepared for India’s booming semiconductor industry.”

Additionally, Dr. Tushar Jain, Head, CCE, IIT Mandi, also highlighted, “By combining IIT Mandi’s research expertise, NCU’s academic infrastructure, and NSDC’s skill initiatives, we are building a future-ready semiconductor workforce.”

“This pioneering programme blends academic excellence with practical exposure, equipping students to contribute to India’s rapidly growing semiconductor ecosystem,” added Prof. Nupur Prakash, Vice Chancellor, NCU.

This initiative equips students with industry-ready skills, boosting employability in India’s semiconductor sector.
