HYDERABAD: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the revised schedule for the UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) December 2024 exam supposed to be held January 15 but postponed.
The NTA postponed the UGC NET exam on January 15 on account of Makar Sankranti and Pongal celebrations.

According to the revised schedule, the exams will now be conducted on January 21 and 27, 2025. The admit cards of the exams will be released shortly by the NTA, a notification issued by the NTA said.

The exams for the subjects Indian Knowledge System, Malayalam, Urdu, Labour Welfare/Personnel Management/Industrial Relations/Labour and Social Welfare/Human Resource Management, Criminology, Tribal and Regional Language/Literature, Folk Literature, Konkani, Environmental Sciences will be held from 9 am to 12 pm on January 21.
Exams for Sanskrit, Mass Communication and Journalism, Japanese, Performing Arts (Dance/Drama/Theatre), Electronic Science, Women Studies, Law, and Nepali will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm on January 27.
“In the interest of aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to Postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 Exam scheduled on 15th January 2025 only. The New date of exam will announce later,” the earlier official notice had said, adding that exams slated for January 16 would be conducted as per schedule.
The UGC-NET 2024 is being held for 85 subjects across the nation using the OMR (Pen and Paper) format. It is being held in two shifts—from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, and from 3 pm to 6 pm.
The exam consists of two papers. The first paper comprises 50 questions carrying 100 marks. It tests general skills such as awareness, reading comprehension, reasoning, research aptitude, and teaching ability. The paper 2 focuses on the candidate’s chosen subject, with 100 questions worth 200 marks.
Candidates must note that those in the unreserved category must score at least 40% marks to pass the exam. While those belonging to the reserved category must score a minimum of 35% marks to clear the test.
This University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test is held every year in June and December for candidates aspiring to be eligible for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET certificate is valid for three years for those applying for JRF positions. For the post of assistant professor/lectureship, the certificate is valid life-long.
