Odisha Government To Upgrade Technical Institutions Into Centres Of Excellence
Bhubaneswar: An Odisha government official on Saturday said that the government has started the process for growing technical institutions like the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics into centres of excellence (CoE) in the mineral bearing areas of the state.
The move came after it was discussed at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy.
Tripathy directed to develop such institutions in the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) for expanding the employment.
He directed to start these new-age trades in drone piloting, robotic technology, mechatronics, solar technology etcetera because of their demand in different polytechnical institutes and ITI’s.
He advised that there should be more scale-up resource generating activities in the institutes with better-developed workshops and labs to make these courses self-sustainable.
It was decided in the meeting that new skill classes will be run in association with industry partners as per their manpower requirement.
Sanjay Kumar, Skill development and technical education secretary, said that currently industry collaborative CoE is being run in the ITIs of Cuttack, Pattamundai and Balasore. Maruti Suzuki, IPSC, HSIL and Schneider Electric are in a collaborative partnership with these institutes.
A proposal was made for the development of CoE in the field of automation in ITI Jaipur, advanced welding at Polytechnic Jaipur, Thermal cutting and welding at PCITI Baripada and this proposal was approved in the meeting.
Similar proposals for developing new ITIs in Karanja, Udala, Kaptipada, Anandpur, Barbil, Barkot, Rourkela, Polytechnic in Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Engineering schools in Jharsuguda were also discussed and got approval in the meeting.
The analysis showed that the three mini tool rooms have been commissioned at ITI Cuttack, Behrampur and Hirakud in collaboration with the Central Tool and Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneshwar.
