Odisha Govt Orders Action Against Absentee Teachers & Employees

Bhubaneswar: Cracking the whip on large scale absenteeism in educational institutes, Odisha Government has ordered action against teachers and employees bunking their duties.

According to sources, 189 teachers and employees from various districts have remained absent for more than five years without any notice.

The School and Mass Education Department on Tuesday directed that teachers and employees who remain absent from duties should be identified and action initiated against them. The department also asked DEOs to initiate action against them.

In a letter directed to the DEOs, Special Secretary to the Government, School and Mass Education Department, Biswanath Pradhan, asked them not to allow the teachers and employees who have remained absent for more than five years, to resume duty failing which departmental proceedings should be instituted against them under rule-15 of the OCS (CC and A) Rules, 1962.

Out of the 189 teachers and employees, about 108 are contractual teachers and employees. The Government has ordered that their annual contracts should not be renewed.
