Odisha’s Fakir Mohan University Students Stage Strike Over Security Issues
Bhubaneswar: The students of Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital in Odisha’s Balasore staged a strike in front of the college demanding better security arrangements from the authorities on Tuesday.
The anti-social activities around the college have apparently made their lives difficult. According to the students, the road connecting the college to the main road has become a hub for anti-social elements who come in their jeeps and vans along with alcohol and drugs, play music in front of the college gate, drink alcohol, take drugs and pass comments to anyone who passes through.
“We have been living in an atmosphere of fear. We have been complaining about this issue for the last 3 years but no progress was made. We requested our college authorities to take some action, gave applications to the local police station, Additional Superintendent of police and to the District Magistrate and requested them to take some action. This halted the anti-social activities for a few days but then again the situation became the same,” the students said.
The students have put forward some demands to the authorities to curb the menace. They want a police outpost near the college campus, and until the outpost is formed, some cops should be posted for the security of the students.
The students also asked the college to build the main college gate which would avoid the entry and gathering of such anti-social elements in and around the college.
