Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has refused a stay order on fee collection of private schools without implementing the Court’s fee waiver directive in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The High Court order came on Monday while taking up the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh (OAM) petition that sought intervention in the matter that several private schools collecting fees for the 2021-22 academic session which was in violation of the court’s fee waiver directive, reported The New Indian Express.
“The fees paid by the students will be subject to the outcome of the writ petition,” the division bench comprising Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice BP Routray said in an interim order.
Returnable notices (within four weeks) were issued by the bench to the School and Mass Education Department and ordered for the listing of the case for hearing on July 11 along with the reply and rejoinder to it by the petitioner.
OAM has alleged via the petition that schools had begun offline classes from February 28 and students were not being allowed to attend classes unless fees are paid as notified for 2021-22.
