Parents Stage Protest At St Andrew’s School In Secunderabad For Fourth Time

Hyderabad: Not once or twice, the parents of children studying at St Andrew’s School in Bowenpally, Secunderabad, protested for the fourth time outside the school premises on Wednesday. They alleged that the school is charging other fees, apart from the tuition fees, in violation of government order in view of COVID-19 induced lockdowns.

Citing non-compliance of Telangana government’s GO 46 norm, parents said the management has incorporated fees like library fee, computer fee, maintenance fee and sports fee into the tuition fee to keep the amount same.

The GO norm disallows private schools to collect any other fee, except for ‘tuition fee’ per month.

However, police dispersed the protest soon after a complaint was filed from the school management. “Police is ensuring COVID-19 protocol by preventing gatherings. But they are not bothered about the GO that prevents schools from fleecing parents,” alleged a parent, Arvind Gupta.

With school authorities turning a deaf ear, parents visited the office of Medchal-Malkajgiri Collector V Venkateswarlu later in the day. It is learnt, that the Collector then asked the Keesara District Educational Office (DEO) to file a detailed report on the matter.
