New Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking direction to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Delhi government to waive exam fees for Class X and XII students in the current academic year in the wake of COVID-19 induced lockdown that led to financial problems of some parents.
A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah refused to entertain the petition filed by NGO ‘Social Jurist’. The NGO had challenged the September 28 order of the Delhi High Court.
“How can the court direct the government to do this? You should give a representation to the government. Dismissed,” the bench was quoted as saying by EdexLive.
The high court had directed the AAP government and the CBSE to treat the PIL as a representation and take a call “in accordance with law, rules, regulations and government policy applicable to the facts of the case” in three weeks’ time.
The appeal said that the income of parents has either disappeared or declined to such a level that it has become difficult for them to arrange even two meals for their families due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the website reported.
