Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship: Application Window Opens

Last Date To Apply Is October 15, 2019

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has invited applications for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) for December.

The last date to submit the applications for PMRF December 2019 is October 15, 2019.

Candidates who have already applied for PMRF earlier and wish to make changes in the application can do so until October 15, 2019, 11:30 PM, the HRD Ministry portal handling PMRF said.

The scheme was launched last year by the Narendra Modi government to boost quality research in the country and stop the brain drain. The Government has now decided to include central universities in the list of host institutes for carrying out research work under the PMRF. These central universities must be among the top 100 in the National Institute of Ranking Framework.

Eligibility:

The candidates should have completed or be pursuing the final year of four (or five) year undergraduate or five year integrated M.Tech. or five year integrated M.Sc. or 2-year M.Sc. or five-year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in Science and Technology streams from IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs/IIEST and centrally funded IIITs.

Fellowship: 

Selected candidates are offered a fellowship of Rs 70,000 per month for the first two years; Rs 75,000 per month for the third year and Rs 80,000 per month in the last two years.

Besides, a fellow is eligible to receive a research grant of Rs 2 lakh for five years to cover their academic contingency expenses and for travel expenses.

There is a rigorous review of the performance and continuation of the next year fellowship is contingent upon successful review.
