Bhubaneswar: Eminent horticultural scientist Prof (Dr) Debi Prasad Ray has taken over as the Chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University here on Tuesday.
Prof (Dr) Ray, who was till recently Principal Advisor to the SOA Founder President Prof (Dr) Manojranjan Nayak, was previously two-time Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar. He succeeded Prof (Dr) Khageswar Pradhan who served as Chancellor of the University since 2011.
Prof (Dr) Ray was welcomed at a low-key function held at the university on Tuesday. The event was attended by the Founder President Prof (Dr) Nayak, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Prof (Dr) Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Prof (Dr) Gangadhar Sahoo and Prof (Dr) Bibhuti Bhushan Pradhan, Professors and senior officials.
After completing his BSc (Agriculture) from OUAT in 1971, Prof (Dr) Ray did his MSc (Ag) from Calcutta University and secured his PhD from the same university in 1981.
After serving as Assistant Professor, Horticulture, in Calcutta University and then as Associate Professor at OUAT, he handled several responsibilities including Associate Director (Research), Professor and Head of Department, Horticulture, Dean of Extension Education and Registrar in the same university. He was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of OUAT in 2006 and continued in office till 2012.
