Rajasthan Govt To Regulate Coaching Institutes: Find How

Kota Has Earned The Distinction Of Being The Student Suicide Capital

Jaipur: Not long ago, Kota in Rajasthan had earned the sobriquet of the city of dreams for thousands of students who took admission in its flourishing tutorials for a seat in the prestigious IITs or in AIIMS. Today, however, it is called the suicide capital of India.

In 2018 alone, as many as 19 suicide-related incidents were reported from the city. In most of the cases, students gave-in to the pressure and anxiety. Precious lives were snuffed out because of the extreme step.

Legislative Measures:

Alarmed over this rising trend, the Rajasthan government has now decided to come up with legislation to regulate the coaching centres.

It has set up a panel to prepare a legislative draft for the regulation of coaching centres to reduce stress among the children studying at such institutes.

Panel Members:

The panel will be headed by the principal secretary (school education), which will prepare the draft in consultation with various stakeholders. District collectors, SPs of Kota and Sikar, the superintendent of psychiatry centre in Jaipur, Bikaner-based educationist Amichand, among others, will be the members of the panel.

News agency PTI reported that the panel will also have members from the coaching centres, Tata Institute of Social Science, law consultants and child psychologists. They will also visit different states before finalising their draft.
