Jaipur: The Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested two more people in the 2018 Jail Prahari exam paper leak case. The leak was traced to a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee, including a project manager who allegedly provided the paper to a cheating gang.
SOG Additional Director General (ADG) VK Singh stated that they had arrested Karan Kumar, 36 years old, from Jamshedpur and Jagjit Singh, 37 years old, from East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, who was a project manager at Tata Consultancy Services, was involved in the 2018 Jail Prahari exam paper leak.
As per reports, VK Singh said earlier, the police had arrested Sandeep Kandiyan from Sonipat, Haryana. During interrogation, he admitted to meeting Karan Kumar to arrange the exam answer key. Sandeep, acting as a middleman, had promised Rs 60 lakh to Karan for the paper leak.
“The accuracy of the information is clear since the exam was conducted by TCS on behalf of Sardar Patel University in Jodhpur,” Singh said to TOI, adding that Jagjit was employed with TCS at the time.
“Sandeep Kandiyan had agreed to pay Rs 60 lakh to Karan for the leaked paper, but police got wind of the paper leak, and the deal faltered,” Singh added.
The online prison guard recruitment exam was held in October 2018. After a tip-off, the SOG checked the phones of two candidates at a Jaipur exam center and found they had received the answer key the night before.
Based on this information, Karan was arrested from Dehradun on March 23, while Jagjit was later arrested from Noida, ADG VK Singh revealed.
Further, Karan also revealed during interrogation that his childhood friend, Jagjit Singh, had provided him with the leaked 2018 Jail Prahari exam papers. The exam was conducted by TCS on behalf of Sardar Patel University.
However, after an extensive search, Jagjit was found in his Noida flat in Eco Village-2 and arrested on Monday.
The SOG has arrested 19 people, including the mastermind, middlemen, and prison guards, and is investigating whether a larger network was involved.
