New Delhi: Barely a few hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s big cabinet reshuffle, Union Minister for Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ resigned from his post on Wednesday afternoon.
Pokriyal’s resignation gave rise to speculation that the Ministry of Education may get a new minister after the cabinet reshuffle, which is likely to be announced at 6 pm on Wednesday.
The minister, who joined office in 2019, made his last major announcement as the education minister on Tuesday, July 6, when he declared the new dates for the postponed JEE Main 2021.
It was during his tenure as the Education Minister, the country adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) replacing the one adopted last in 1986.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Education, Sanjay Dhotre has also resigned from his post.
