Relaxation In Lockdown Norms: JNU Authority Asks Students To Vacate Hostels
New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University on Monday asked students to vacate the hostel and advised them to go home.
The order followed the central government’s decision to run special trains and several intra-state buses.
Sudheer Pratap Singh, Dean of Students, said hat the university had issued a notice in March about the closure of the university and advised students to go home.
“However, many students requested to stay back in hostels at that time due to non-availability of public transport during the lockdown. Further, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi government guidelines issued from time to time, the university has announced that students can return to the campus on or after June 25 and till then all academic activities are closed. This is to underline that the Government of India updates daily about the COVID-19 pandemic situation. At present, the number of cases in Delhi is increasing swiftly day by day,” the circular read.
As the government is providing transportation facilities now, the JNU authority has strongly advised the students staying in the hostel to return to their hometown and come back after the institute resumes its normal classroom teaching, it added.
