Bhubaneswar: The Government on Monday issued guidelines for reopening schools for Class VIII and XI students across Odisha from next week.
The schools in the state will be reopening after a long gap of 18 months that was put into force due to COVID-19. The offline classes for Class XI students will begin from October 21 and that for Class VIII from October 25.
The guidelines issued by the government are as follows:
Teachers and School Management to chalk out a plan for resumption of classes for Std VIII from October 17 to 24
Cleaning of schools to begin from October 17. DEOs to be kept in the loop regarding cleaning activities and sanitation of schools
Since the schools will reopen after a long time (one and a half years), on the first two days, the teachers will guide the students will extra-curricular activities and orientation sessions
Students of Class VIII (now) have not studied anything in Class VII. The students might not have a good hold over the subjects and chapters of Class VII.
The teachers will hold assessment tests for the students on October 27 (Odia), and Oct 28 (Maths) and Oct 29 (English). The questions papers will be provided by OSEPA and SCIRT
Following these assessment tests, the Principal of the schools will hold remedial classes and sessions for the students of Class VIII
It must be ensured that Principals will take classes and inspect classes by other teachers
The Principal/Headmaster will hold a 30-minute meeting with teachers after the classes every day.
These and a couple of other guidelines have been listed in an advisory issued by the School and Mass Education department on Monday
The Health and Family Welfare Department had announced that the state government will announce the closure of physical classes if there is a rise in COVID-19 positive cases.
Director, Medical Education and Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty had said the education of school children has been badly affected for more than one and a half years due to the COVID pandemic, the state government has to take steps so that their future is not spoiled.
