Reopening Of Schools: Know Status In Different States

Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on several aspects of normal life, but perhaps it is most visible in the problems it has caused to the functioning of various schools and colleges across India.

Following MHA directives, several state governments have held meetings in regards to school reopenings across the country. Here is a quick look at the current status in some states of India:

Odisha: The state government has decided to keep schools shut till December 31.

Tripura: Schools reopened for classes X and XII students on Monday, December 7.

Madhya Pradesh: Schools for classes I to VIII will remain shut until March 31, and the new academic session will commence from April 1, while classes IX to XII will partially begin soon following all safety protocols.

Haryana: Earlier decided to keep schools shut only till November 30, but rising positive cases in few districts of Haryana caused the state government to postpone school reopening for 10 more days, with schools now reopening on December 10.

Tamil Nadu: As of now, the state government has issued no dates for reopening of schools since it cancelled its decision to reopen schools for classes IX to XII from November 16.

Delhi: Due to the rising positive cases in Delhi, state education minister Manish Sisodia announced that all schools would remain closed until a vaccine was available.

Karnataka: The state government has decided to keep all schools closed till December end, however CISCE and other academicians have objected to this, asking for schools to be reopened at least partially.

Rajasthan: Citing rising pandemic cases, the Rajasthan government has decided to keep schools shut till December 31.

West Bengal: Education minister Partha Chatterjee said that the schools will remain shut until the pandemic situation improves.

Gujarat: With the sudden rise in positive cases, the Gujarat government postponed its decision to reopen schools from November 23.

Maharashtra: Schools have reopened in the state since November 23.
