New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that all Sainik Schools across the country will now open the doors for girls too. Currently, 33 Sainik schools are functioning in the country.
“Now, the government has decided that all the Sainik schools in the country will also be open for the daughters of the country,” he said during his Independence Day speech on Sunday.
During his I-Day speech, PM Modi said that two-and-a-half years ago, the maiden experiment of admitting girls to Sainik schools was done in Mizoram.
Sainik Schools Society under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence runs the country’s Sainik schools.
The effort is aimed at preparing students from an early age for their entry into the Indian armed forces.
