School Reopening In Gujarat And Mumbai Postponed Due To Rising COVID Cases

Cuttack: Mumbai and Gujarat governments, having earlier decided to reopen schools and colleges on November 23, have opted to delay the resuming of classes owing to the spike in COVID cases in both the states, media reports said.

Following a report by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cautioning a second wave of the pandemic in Mumbai, the state government decided to keep all schools in the state closed till December 31.

According to ANI, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednakar said, “The decision has been taken in the wake of rise in #COVID19 cases in Mumbai. Schools will not re-open on November 23.”

The Gujarat government, in light of the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, also decided to postpone the reopening of schools and colleges, earlier slated to open on November 23, according to directives by Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a tweet, “Gujarat Government decides to postpone the reopening of schools and colleges in Gujarat from November 23 in the wake of the current Coronavirus situation.”
