Kochi: A team of three students from St Sebastian’s Public School in Udayamperoor have developed a remote-controlled robot that can get food items from local shops and can share food with neighbours too.
The students – Anto George, Joseph Sony and John Sony have developed a prototype of the robot on a budget of Rs 18,000 in just four days.
Speaking about the invention, Anto said, “While ‘Break the Chain’ campaign advocates social distancing, our innovation tries to help people achieve that. It can be used to transport supplies from local shops to homes or between neighbouring houses.”
The robot can travel up to 1km on wireless mode and uses the battery, which is used in computer UPS.
If fully charged, it can run for four hours. The robot can be controlled using an RC remote and can be connected to mobile phones to track its route.
A camera has been attached to the robot to transmit images to the remote.
Aluminum panels have been used to make the body of the robot. The wheels are specially designed with four motors and household mats so that it can run on muddy land.
“We would like to develop our robot prototype into a fully working model,” said Anto.
The students have uploaded a video of their prototype on their YouTube channel, DTP Tech. DTP Tech has around 6,000 subscribers.
