New Delhi: All schools here will remain closed until October 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi government officials said on Sunday.
The state government had earlier extended the closure of schools until October 5, despite the Centre permitting calling students of classes IX to XII to schools on a voluntary basis from September 21.
“The Directorate of Education (DoE) has been directed to extend the ongoing closure of schools till Oct 31. Formal orders to this effect will be issued by DoE tomorrow,” an official at the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s office was quoted as saying by EdexLive. Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia also holds the portfolio of education.
Universities and schools across the country have been shut since March 16 when the central government announced a countrywide classroom shutdown to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.
