Bhubaneswar: Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Prem Chandra Chaudhary on Saturday clarified that reopening of schools (Classes IX to XII) in the city will be decided after the School and Mass Education department issues the SOP.
Speaking to media persons, the BMC Commissioner said though the number of positive cases in the city has dropped in the last couple of days, over 100 cases are reported every day. The decision on reopening will be taken keeping this in view, he added.
According to the Unlock 6.0 guidelines issued by the state government, Classes from IX to XII in all the schools will reopen from November 16. However, all other academic institutions will remain closed till November 30.
The BMC commissioner said necessary steps will be taken depending on the standard operating procedure (SOP).
Earlier, School and Mass Education minister Sameer Ranjan Dash said the department will soon issue a detail (SOP) to facilitate the reopening of schools, particularly Classes IX to XII.
The SOP will mostly deal with the directions for the strict compliance of the COVID-19 norms issued by Centre and State Health and Family Welfare Department.
