Schools Willing To Reopen In Between August 15 & 31: UT Education Department

New Delhi: Responding to ministry of human resource development’s (MHRD’s) query on reopening schools, the UT education department said it wanted schools to start functioning in between August 15 and 31 for Class X and XII students.

The MHRD sought parents’ feedbacks through the state/union territory education secretaries. The decision was made after taking the parents’ views into account.

The ministry had asked the states/UTs to file feedbacks by July 20 on “what is the likely period when they will be comfortable with reopening of schools — August/September/October and what are the parents’ expectations from schools as and when they reopen.”

Replying on the same, the education department informed the ministry that the parents too want schools to start functioning in between August 15 and August 31.

“This is only tentative. There wasn’t enough time to collect feedback from parents so we spoke to the principals of the schools and used Google forms to get the responses from the parents. Before schools are allowed to reopen we will wait until the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and senior officers of the UT administration give permission. We will also ask health experts for their inputs regarding this,” Rubinderjit Singh Brar, director school education, said.
