Sikkim To Reopen Schools & Colleges From June 15, Awaits Govt Guidelines
Gangtok: The Sikkim government has decided to reopen educational institutions in the state from Xlass IX to university level from June 15.
Becoming the only corona-free state in the country, the authorities here are awaiting SOPs from the government and NCERT to ensure health safety measures once the schools reopen.
“We have now decided to resume classes for students of Class IX and above, college and universities in the state from June 15. Morning assemblies will not be held, all Saturdays will be working days, social distancing will be maintained strictly and hand washing facility will be installed in all institutions,” Sikkim Education Minister KN Lepcha told NDTV.
While the state would continue taking online classes for the students at the primary level, it is also planning to curtail winter break this year. Besides, the schools will conduct classes on Saturdays to cover up for the academic loss due to COVID-19 lockdown, he added.
However, the government will review the decision based on the coronavirus situation in the state.
