New Delhi: Only a few months after the academic session started, education was halted by COVID-19 pandemic. This forced the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to slash the syllabi of Classes IX to XII for this session by 30 per cent owing to classes hampered by the closure of schools during the outbreak of COVID-19.
Now, it seems students who are preparing for competitive examinations like JEE and NEET next year cannot afford to skip these portions.
Anurag Tiwari, National Academic Director (Medical), Aakash Institute, said that there was no instruction from the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding this to the coaching institutes and that their students are taught these excluded portions too. “JEE and NEET are always based on the NCERT syllabus. Now it will be almost impossible to set competitive examination question papers, excluding these topics,” Tiwari was quoted as saying by EdexLive.
An RTI was filed simultaneously with the NTA, that sought the syllabus for JEE and NEET 2021 was disposed of, according to the portal. A medical student from Madhya Pradesh, Vivek Pandey filed the RTI.
“The Question Papers for NEET (UG) is based on a Common Syllabus notified by the Medical Council of India (MCI). NTA has no role in framing the syllabus for NEET,” read the RTI remark.
However, Vivek pointed out that the MCI is a defunct body. This was replaced by the National Medical Commission — which is not in the ambit of the RTI — on September 25 this year.
