Supreme Court Gives Centre A Week To Decide On NEET-MDS 2021 Counselling Date

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Central government to take a call on the counselling date for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-Master in Dental Studies (MDS) 2020 in a week’s time.

Justices DY Chandrachud and Hrishikesh Roy’s bench slammed the Centre for the delay in announcing the NEET-MDS 2020 counselling date. The bench — while hearing petitions filed by a group of doctors after the delay — said that it was a huge loss for the doctors as well as the country.

The entrance exam was held on December 16, 2020, and the results were announced on December 31, 2020.

“When are you going to do the counselling? The government is dilly-dallying over this. You have to hold and complete for MDS NEET. They are qualified BDS doctors and wasting their lives. Allow these doctors. What a loss to India. You are not allowing PG students to complete their studies,” Justice Chandrachud said.

According to the Centre, the delay was due to the Madras High Court’s pending judgment on quota, which is likely in October.

However, the top court directed immediate action after noting that a delay in counselling will lead to serious consequences for students who passed the exam.
