Supreme Court Rejects Tamil Nadu Government’s Petition For 50% OBC Quota In State Medical Colleges

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today quashed the petitions filed by the Tamil Nadu government requesting 50 per cent reservation for OBC (Other Backward Classes) in All India Quota (AIQ) seats for state-run colleges, reported NDTV.

Earlier, the central government was directed by the top court to form a committee comprising of representatives from the state, centre and Medical Council of India to make a decision on providing OBC quota in AIQ seats in the state colleges.

The centre informed the court last week that it was not possible to extend OBC quota for state medical and dental colleges this year.

The petitions challenging the decision were filed by Tamil Nadu political parties, including ruling party AIADMK and the opposition party DMK.
