Teachers’ Body Oppose Delhi University Proposal For Open Book Exams
New Delhi: The new working committee of Delhi University has recommended holding online ‘open book’ examinations for final semester students.
While the final semester exams are scheduled to be held in July as per UGC guidelines, the varsity’s Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) has written to DU Vice Chancellor Jagdish Tyagi opposing the proposal.
“It is not a very good idea. Open book exams are meant not only to test the conceptual understanding of the students but also their ability to apply these concepts in real-life situations. They are best suited in disciplines that require testing based on direct reference to written materials. Students are evaluated on the basis of understanding rather than memorization,” INTEC convener, Pankag Garg told The New Indian Express.
Besides, the UGC has not mentioned the open-book online examinations in its guidelines, an academic council member said.
