New Delhi: Having a B.Tech or an M.Tech will not be enough for a teaching job in a technical institute.
AICTE, the regulatory body governing technical education in the country, has decided to conduct a qualifying exam for aspirants who wish to become a teacher in engineering or pharmacy college.
Training programme on the lines of BEd:
Candidates will have to take a training course on the lines of BEd programme comprising eight modules and a month-long internship with the industry before sitting for the qualifying exam, news portal The Print has reported.
“It is important for technical teachers to be trained because they require different kinds of skill sets as compared to other teachers,” it said quoting AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe. “They need to be more abreast with the latest technological developments.”
At present, candidates, by and large, are directly recruited to the engineering institutes as teachers based on their B.Tech or M.Tech scores.
AICTE has set up AICTE Training and Learning Academy in Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Vadodra for the training purpose. And there are plans to have 11 more centres across the country, the report said.
These centres will especially focus on new-age training such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, data science, internet of things and quantum computing, among others.
