New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important circular ahead of the Class X and XII Term 1 Examinations.
The Board has issued clarification via the circular regarding the difference between major and minor subjects. It comes in the wake of some questions received by the CBSE after the date sheet of Term 1 Examinations were announced.
“The classification of subjects has been done purely on administrative ground for the purpose of conduct of Term 1 Examinations. This has been done based on the number of candidates appearing in the subject and in no way reflects the importance of subjects as Major or Minor,” read the CBSE circular.
According to the CBSE, the subjects mentioned in the date sheet of minor subjects include regional languages, applied mathematics, and English elective etc. From the academic viewpoint, every subject is of equal importance.
The board said that it is only for the administrative convenience that all these subjects have been put under the minor category. The administrative convenience is in relation to the logistics required to conduct the examinations.
“Further retreated that as per the scheme of studies and Curriculum of CBSE, all subjects in both the classes are having equal weightage and importance,” added the circular.
The CBSE Class X exams for minor subjects will begin with painting on November 17. The Class XII exams will kick off with Entrepreneurship and Beauty and Wellness subjects on November 16.
For Class X, major subject exams will be conducted from November 30 to December 11, while for Class XII, the major exam will be held from December 1 to December 22.
