There’s So Much To Look Forward To In 2021: IIT Delhi Director
New Delhi: IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao revealed the plans for 2021 and looked back on the year that has just passed during his address to the students on the New Year’s Eve.
New academic courses, including online ones, an international campus and infrastructural development are in the offing at IIT Delhi in the New Year.
The institute is set to develop 1.8 million square feet infrastructure in 2021. R&I Park, a boys’ hostel, a girls’ hostel and a hostel for married students, a sports complex, faculty housing and pre-engineering blocks are all included in the plan.
“As we set foot into the New Year, there is so much to look forward to. In 2021 (between January to May 2021), we will be taking possession of all the following fully completed buildings and spaces which are currently under construction. This should alleviate our infrastructure needs to a large extent. We will be roughly adding 1.8 Million square foot of additional space to the institute activities in 2021,” Rao was quoted as saying in his address to the IIT Delhi community by ABP Education.
For its online educational initiative eVIDYA, IIT Delhi has inked agreements with five major service providers in the educational space.
“You will see major online certificate programmes from IIT Delhi in 2021. We also have some very unique initiatives from IIT Delhi planned in 2021 in our internationalisation and alumni connect efforts. There are also multiple new educational programmes that will be launched in 2021. All this has been possible because of your collective efforts,” the director said.
Happy New Year 2021 to all of you and to all our well-wishers @iitdelhi. Here are our learnings from 2020 and hopes for 2021. Let’s work together to make 2021 even brighter. @iitdaa @EduMinOfIndia@DrRPNishank @SanjayDhotreMP#HappyNewYear2021 #iitdelhi pic.twitter.com/CkB3iVHjiU

Looking back, IIT Delhi also produced a brave fight to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The institute supplied over 5 million high-quality PPEs at affordable rates, developed the world’s most affordable RT-PCR kit and other rapid diagnostic kits, conducted scientific studies on the effectiveness of various traditional medicines of COVID-19, etc. in the year passed by.
“As part of the IIT Delhi family, we have every reason to be hopeful and cheerful as we welcome 2021. The most important task at IIT Delhi shall always be ‘building careers and transforming lives’. Let’s all take a pledge to do our best in 2021 and remind ourselves of the institute’s vision,” Rao added.
