This Country To Introduce Yoga As Sport In School Curriculum Soon

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia will soon introduce Yoga in schools as part of the sports curriculum owing to its significance in enhancing mental and physical health, the Saudi Yoga Committee president, Nouf Al-Marwaai, said on Wednesday, March 16.

The commerce ministry is learnt to have approved the teaching and practice of yoga as a sport in the Kingdom in 2017, reported news agency ANI.

The president said that yoga will be introduced in the curriculum as its multitude of health benefits and will be in cooperation with the education ministry. Earlier in the week, an introductory lecture was organised to highlight the joint effort between the Saudi Yoga Committee and the Saudi School Sports Federation.

School principals and physical education teachers from all stages of education attended the lecture, reported Arab News via ANI.

“Our school system has always ensured that all its activities are aimed at contributing to the development of the students… and I believe that introducing yoga to the Saudi education system is a nourishing move,” certified yoga instructor and founder of Ananda Yoga Studio, Khalid Jama’an Al-Zahrani, was quoted as saying by a news portal.
