This University Will Levy Tax On Morning & Evening Walkers
Bhopal: A Madhya Pradesh university has levied an ‘Oxygen Tax’ on people who use the campus for walks in the morning and evening.
According to the Vikram University’s estimates, around 5,000 locals use the campus daily for walks. The decision has been made by vice-chancellor Akhilesh Kumar Pandey to put this group of health-conscious people under a unique tax.
“We are planning to expand the green base on the 300-acre campus in accordance with the number of users,” the vice-chancellor was quoted as saying by News18.
Professor Pandey explained that a single person inhales 5 to 7 litres of air with 20 per cent oxygen concentration per minute and based on this calculation, every person inhales 550 litres of air and a single plant produces around 750 litres of oxygen per day, the report said.
The vice-chancellor said that the varsity will make every walker plant a sapling in the campus premises and take care of it until it grows up fully. Every student registering in the varsity would also have to plant five samplings each, Professor Pandey said.
