TISS Students Seek Deadline Extension For Dissertation Submission

Mumbai: Considering the upsurge in COVID-19 cases across the country, the final-year students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) have asked for a deadline extension for the submission of their dissertation projects.

All final year students of TISS must complete a research dissertation of around six credits in their final semester.

However, students have not been able to complete their research work due to curfews imposed in several parts of the country with restrictions in movement. The last date generally falls in March.

TISS students’ body, Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF), via a letter to the administration earlier this week, requested the institute to allow them to submit their dissertation by May 15, reported Hindustan Times. The institute’s dean, academics, PK Shajahan, did not respond to queries. The campus is closed and classes are being conducted online.

“In light of the sudden unexpected turn of events causing a spike in the Covid cases and with several states imposing lockdown-like restrictions, many students are struggling to complete their dissertation work within the prescribed time frame. Many institutions and transport facilities are facing restrictions and students find it difficult to meet their research requirements and to finish their work for submission,” Asika VM from PSF said in the letter quoted by HT.

“We request the administration to acknowledge this situation faced by the students and extend the date of submission of the dissertation to May 15,” the letter added.
