TISS Survey: Large Percentage Of Students Want Campus To Reopen Soon
Mumbai: Seventy per cent of students from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, want the campus to reopen soon, according to a survey conducted by Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF), reported Hindustan Times.
To assess the impact of online classes on students, 549 students were surveyed across all four campuses, out of which 28.8 per cent students were comfortable with online classes. More than half expressed discomfort with online teaching, and the remaining were unsure.
Reopening of campuses was favoured by 41 per cent of students, while 32 per cent wanted the institute to reopen by end of the current semester.
Based on the findings of the survey, the PSF has written to the TISS administration, suggesting phase-wise reopening, attendance guidelines and conducting classes while maintaining social distancing rules.
The survey also revealed that students expected provisions for accommodation facilities like hostels, and PSF’s letter also advised for single rooms and no more than two students per room to reduce congestion, along with high risk groups having separate rooms.
A member of the PSF said that the survey was conducted in light of the discussions across the country to reopen campuses, to find out the general opinion on online education and campuses reopening.
