UGC Alerts About Fake Exam Cancellation Notice After Operation Sindoor
All official updates are available only on the UGC website and its official social media channels, says the UGC
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a statement saying that a fabricated notice is being circulated in its name.
The announcement falsely claimed that all examinations had been cancelled due to a ‘war-like situation’ in India and advised students to leave for their homes.
This clarification came shortly after India carried out targeted airstrikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) as part of Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched in retaliation for the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam on April 22.
“A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name of UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC,” the UGC posted on its official handle on social media platform X.

Meanwhile, all schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained shut in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez on Thursday in view of the prevailing situation after Operation Sindoor.
All schools in six border districts of Punjab remained shut on May 8, 2025, the officials said.
In view of the tensed situation with Pakistan, the schools were closed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts.
The Tarn Taran authorities issued an order that said all schools in the district would remain closed from May 8 till 11.
