UGC Asks Higher Education Institutions To Ensure UPI Payment Facilities
The UPI transaction limit for educational services has been increased to Rs. 5 lakh, says UGC notification
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to ensure Unified Payments Interface (UPI) facilities for financial transactions. The UPI transaction limit for educational services has been increased to Rs. 5 lakh, it said.
In a notice, the UGC has highlighted the need to promote the financial transactions in digital mode at education institutions, keeping pace with the digital economy.
The Government of India is focused on creating a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, with digital payments as a fundamental component and this vision supports a less-cash and more inclusive economy, empowering citizens in their financial decisions, the notice said.
Faster and more accessible
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has transformed the financial landscape by enabling seamless and secure money transfers, providing convenience to millions of users. Its integration with QR codes and mobile applications has made transactions faster and more accessible.
The UPI has simplified payment processes for educational services, allowing students in rural areas to easily pay for college, university, and examination fees.
As education increasingly moves online offering courses, certifications, and study materials-the need for UPI as a payment option has become essential.
As the UPI transaction limit for educational services has been increased to Rs. 5 lakhs, the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are requested to ensure that UPI and UPI QR payment facilities are available for transactions at their institutions, both online and offline, the notification pointed out.
