UGC Panel Suggests To Begin New College Session From September

New Delhi:A University Grants Commission (UGC) panel has proposed that the new academic session for higher education institutions should begin from September instead of July.

The seven-member panel has also recommended that the year-end or semester examinations should be held in July.

The panel headed by Haryana Central University Vice Chancellor RC Kuhad gave the proposals on Friday.

Now, it’s up to the UGC’s discretion to accept the recommendations and prepare guidelines accordingly. “The guidelines will not be binding on higher education institutions, but they will lay down the outer time limit by which the government expects them to start their new academic year,” a source was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

Besides, the Union government will have to move the Supreme Court for seeking an extension for admission to various programmes.

Another committee on online learning has advised the government not to conduct online examinations due to lack of inadequate infrastructure and technology support.
